CREVILLENTE mayor César Augosto Asencio has apologised for an article he wrote to local newspaper Información in 1979, then aged 17, in which he denied the Nazi holocaust.

It came to light when Iniciativa party delegate Mireia Mollà called for his dismissal after he had been appointed Partido Popular (PP) regional secretary general to replace Ricardo Costa, who resigned last week as a result of his connection with the Gurtel corruption case.

“In some European countries they would have taken him straight to jail,” asserted Sra Molla. The original article contained polemical attacks on Jews.
