LONDON — Ash from Iceland’s spewing volcano halted air traffic across a wide swathe of Europe on Thursday, grounding planes on a scale not seen since the 9/11 terror attacks. Thousands of flights were canceled, tens of thousands of passengers were stranded and officials said it was not clear when it would be safe enough to fly again.

In a sobering comment, one scientist in Iceland said the ejection of volcanic ash — and therefore disruptions in air travel — could continue for days or even weeks.

Authorities stopped all flights over Britain, Ireland and the Nordic countries. The shutdown closed London’s five major airports including Heathrow, Europe’s busiest, a major trans-Atlantic hub that handles over 1,200 flights and 180,000 passengers per day.

With the cloud drifting south and east across Britain, the country’s air traffic service banned all non-emergency flights until at least 7 a.m. (0600 GMT, 2 a.m. EDT) Friday.

Irish authorities closed their air space for at least eight hours, and aviation authorities in Denmark, Norway, Sweden and Finland took similar precautions.

Airport shutdowns and flight cancellations spread across Europe — to France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Denmark, Ireland, Sweden, Finland and Switzerland — as well as around the world.

The volcano’s smoke and ash poses a threat to aircraft because it can affect visibility, and microscopic debris can get sucked into airplane engines and can cause them to shut down. Health officials said the plume, which rose to between 20,000 feet and 36,000 feet (6,000 meters and 11,000 meters), posed no threat to human health.

Airlines in the United States were canceling some flights to Europe and delaying others.

Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman Laura Brown said her agency was working with airlines to try to reroute some flights around the ash cloud, which lies above the Atlantic Ocean close to the flight paths for most routes from the U.S. east coast to Europe.

Killer Waves Rock Mediterranean Cruise

ATHENS, Greece (March 3) — A 26-foot wave smashed into a cruise ship carrying nearly 2,000 people in the Mediterranean on Wednesday, smashing glass windshields and killing two passengers, according to officials and news reports.

Another six people suffered light injuries, the Greek coast guard said in a statement. The victims were identified as a German and an Italian man.

Will A New Law Essentially Outlaw Evangelical Christianity And Roman Catholicism In The U.K.?

Did that headline get your attention?  It should.  A new law is dangerously close to becoming law in the U.K. that would essentially outlaw evangelical Christianity and Roman Catholicism.  Not that ”The Equality Bill” specifically designates those faiths as illegal in the legislation itself.  Rather, the bill outlaws specific beliefs and practices that are fundamental to both evangelical Christianity and Roman Catholicism.  In fact, experts are saying that “The Equality Bill” would create a volcanic eruption of litigation in U.K. courts and would ultimately force those who wish to continue to practice anything that even looks like traditional Christianity to go underground.

After Mystery Babylon the Great falls, the people left alive are told that they must have a mark placed on their right hand and forehead in order to buy or sell commerce, etc. and live under the new ruler. Those who refuse the mark will more than likely be killed or placed in captivity, or take to the mountains, similiar to the characters in the movie Red Dawn, and survive off the land.

Revelation 14:9 – “If anyone worships the beast and his image and receives a mark on his forehead or on his hand, he will also drink the wine of God’s wrath… There is no rest day or night for those who worship the beast and his image, or anyone who receives the mark of his name. Excerpt:  ”

When we did finally go, we met with Baida alone. I asked her gently, and as non-judgmentally as I could, whether she wanted to kill me because I was a foreigner.

“Frankly, yes.” Then she added, to soften it: “Not specifically you, because I know you.”

Would she tell her extremist cousins or her friends about me? “I won’t sacrifice my friendship,” she said. A moment later she reversed herself. “But if they insisted, I would. If they kill Americans they will do a big huge banquet.”

She smiled beatifically.

“Frankly, my cousins called me when they knew I would meet a journalist and translator and they did their best to get your descriptions and the date you would come. They asked me about the date many times. They know the way to the hospital. They would be waiting for you and would kill you. They said to me: ‘If you will do that for us, we will help you escape from the hospital, even from prison.’ They asked for other details: what were your names; what did you look like?”

She seemed excited now at the thought of our capture. “They do not want to kill you, but to torture you and make lunch of your flesh. I could not do anything to help you.”
